Practical leather conservation.

This course is intended for professional conservators and restorers who wish to expand their knowledge and for those part way through a training course. It is not suitable for complete beginners. Details

Fresco painting. 1 Day.

Fresco was used by the Etruscans and the technique can be traced through to the Romans and on to the medieval period. Because it is painted on fresh lime plaster the work has to be carried out in a day. This requires special techniques. The day will start with a lecture lasting about 1 hour to explain the methods used, and to illustrate the similarities in technique from the different periods. The rest of the day will be spent on plastering and painting. No previous experience or artistic skills are needed. The course is suitable for novices as well as professionals in the fields of art, art history, conservation etc. It can be varied to meet the needs of different groups.

Cost

The cost for the day is 400 pounds Sterling. This is split between participants. Includes tea, coffee, lunch and materials.

Other topics.

A range of other lectures and topics are available. Some suitable for in house training, while others are more suited to one off lectures.

Subjects covered in the past include:

The Art of Fresco. A popular lecture and demonstration which can be adjusted to suit both general audiences and specialist ones.

Care of leather. This can vary from 2 hours to a full day. The course it is aimed at institutions with leather collections who need help with its day to day care. It is taught regularly as part of visits to National Trust houses, sometimes as a standalone course, or as part of longer visit to treat items on-site.
