Stanley was a much loved toy horse. The leather itself, and many of the sewn seams, had split. Small amounts of leather had been lost and the surface was drab. The top photograph shows him before restoration, and the lower one shows him after repair. The leather was too weak to re-sew, so the splits were repaired with a fine archival quality leather dyed to match the original. This was used to fill the holes too. Finally, a light polish was applied. At the end of the treatment he still looked old but he looked loved and cared for. Conserved for a private client. |
